Kyopio

Kyopio is the center of Savo. It is surrounded by the necklace of lakes and islands in the East Finland. Its territory is 1179 sq. km. Kyopio was founded in 1652 as the center of trade and management of the province. It is an important administrative, cultural and Orthodox center nowadays.

Kyopio – attractive city for active leisure

You’ll find various cultural, historical and natural-scientific exhibits as well as the remarkable collection of negatives on glass of the founder of Finnish photography Victor Barsokevich in the Museum of Kyopio.

Remarkable mountain Pujo in Kyopio

There is a remarkable mountain Pujo, covered with thick forest, in the center of this city. You’ll see an unusual 75-meters tower at the top of the mountain. There is a cafe on the first floor of this tower, a revolving restaurant on the second one and an observation deck on the third.

In winter the mountain Pujo becomes the center of winter tourism and the place of New Year and Christmas celebration in Kyopio. The observation tower “Pujo” and the forest around it shine with the colored lights and create festive and fabulous atmosphere there from the end of November till March.
